The Transformed

This seventeen year old girl only has one year left “in the system.”  She has no parents to go home to and no family to adopt her.  Because of her unusually low IQ, she will not earn a high school diploma and has been slowly working to attain a GED.  It would seem she has no hope for a pleasant future.  Yet, if asked what would make her happy, she says she wants to live with her grandmother.  “I’m ‘perfect’ there,” she says.

Through hours of therapy, this beautiful girl was taught how to express emotion.  Instead of displaying a frown when she was happy and a smile when she was angry, she has learned to effectively convey her feelings.  And after this grand accomplishment, she developed the “happy dance” and willingly puts her hands on her knees and twirls her hips to show off her smile.

She may not have had a wonderful childhood, and she certainly has been through way too much for her age, but she has flourished into a stunning rose.  Like a rose, she has many thorns that were developed through the hard growth she endured.  But, in spite of her pain, she became a delicate and rare beauty.

Please pray God continues to grow her into the young woman she is becoming.  Pray she finds the motivation it will take to complete her GED.  And pray God gives her His desires for her heart as she continually learns to follow His plan for her life.
