The Caring
“I don’t care!” she often says. “I don’t have any feelings, and I never cry.” She puts on a thick front, not allowing anyone inside her shell. She often hides from kind words and cowards toward close friendships. She claims no one wants her and says she will be in foster care until she is eighteen.
But we know she cares. We see it in her eyes every day. She longs for someone to care for her, yet she does everything she can to push us away. We are not going anywhere, and she is starting to realize it.
She is only thirteen years old, but has already submerged herself into many “adult” actions. She seeks attention from everyone around, be it positive or negative.
So many past experiences try to grab her attention. Her past haunts her, and she sees no hope for a future. When asked what she wants to do when she grows up, she says she plans to be homeless.
Her smile is gorgeous. And her laughter is extremely contagious. She cares. She just doesn’t know it yet. Every day we tell her we care. Every day she hears the truth. And she quietly listens, trying to decipher if she believes the truth.
Please pray that God continues to soften her heart. Pray He gives her an unexplainable hope for the future He has planned for her. Pray He shows her how much she cares.
